Completion of Swimming Pool Upgrade Project
After an extensive four month renovation process, the Shire of Meekatharra were thrilled to announce the reopening of the Meekatharra War Memorial Swimming Pool, perfectly timed for the new season.
The comprehensive renovation project included a range of critical improvements, such as extensive re-tiling, concrete shell repairs for both the Main Pool and the Toddler Pool, re-sealing, re-painting, upgraded plumbing, and the installation of new water features. Dyson Pools Pty Ltd, the successful tenderer for this project, provided exceptional work, ensuring the project was completed on time and within budget. Importantly, the entirety of the works was executed during the off-season, ensuring our community did not miss out on any pool time.
To celebrate this significant milestone, we hosted a free community event on the 2nd of October 2023, where our community came together to commemorate the pool's rejuvenation.
At the event, Councillor Judy Holden and Shire CEO Kelvin Matthews conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and extended their heartfelt gratitude to all who attended. They offered special recognition to Shire’s Community Development & Services Manager, Svenja Clare, for her invaluable leadership in ensuring the project's success. They also expressed gratitude to the State Government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries; a major supporter of community sport and recreation facilities in Western Australia. Sport and recreation build stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities. When we play sport our whole community wins.
The event also featured the return of the beloved 'Pool Man,' Fordy, and Mat from Contract Aquatic Services, who thrilled attendees with exciting inflatables, providing endless entertainment for kids and spectators alike. Additionally, the Shire's Youth team put the new BBQ to the test, treating everyone to a delectable sausage sizzle.
As a much-loved community asset that provides numerous health and social benefits, we are delighted to see the Meekatharra War Memorial Swimming Pool reopen for many more seasons of community use.
