The purpose of this project is to improve the aesthetics of Meekatharra’s main thoroughfare, creating a more vibrant streetscape.
The Median Strip will be rebuilt with a concrete surface which then receives a spray-on pavers finish.
Three sections will be left blank for artistic murals, displaying the three main pillars of Meekatharra’s heritage:
• Indigenous
• Pastoral
• Mining
The Shire will engage the community to ask for input into the design. Community members can contribute keywords, symbols, stories and/or colours that they feel represent the Indigenous, Pastoral and Mining heritage of Meekatharra. The artist is then tasked with compiling this community feedback into three designs.
The artist is responsible for design only, not for installation.
